Day 42 (26th September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 42

The weather was very windy today and Paul didn't manage to start work on the car until late afternoon. We really thought it was going to rain all day. But luckily the rain stayed away and the wind died down enough for some work to be done.

Just the brakes will probably get done today, but they are coming on. Paul did manage to get all the brake cylinders fitted. He also got the swivel gators fitted on the front wheels. You should have seen him trying to get them laced up. LOL It was so funny watching him, as it has been a long time since he has done these. He had to do it a couple of times before he got it right. Plus he watched a copy of videos on youtube to remind him how to do it LOL. He has put the petroleum jelly on the inside of the gators and will do the outside when he is ready for the wheels to go on.

Here are the new brake cylinders, brake hoses and the swivel gators all done and looking brilliant. I do love shiny new stuff on the car LOL

Paul has really worked hard on the wheel hubs and I really think it is all looking fantastic. What do you think?

Once Paul had got that done, he turned his attention to the wheels. The weather was still holding out for us, which was a blessing. If you remember they all needed to be cleaned before they could be painted and we all know what happened while that was being done. Don't we LOL

Well, Paul has started to paint the wheels now and one wheel has both coats of the white undercoat on. I think it looks pretty cool. But I am looking forward to seeing them all painted in the cream. I think the white looks good, but I do prefer the cream. We are trying to make sure we get 'Jane-May' looking as she would have originally when she was built in 1960. Apart from a few curtain things that can not be done on our budget.

What do you think of this newly painted wheel. I like it

This really does make the wheel look so much better. Very clean and original looking

The other wheels have had their first coat of the white. Unfortunately the white has running out. So we are going to have to get some more so that we can finish off the other wheels. But they are coming along anyway.

We are running out of places to stand the wheels LOL

This one just got the first coat of the white before it run out. Lucky or what

So that is it for now. We don't know what the weather forecast is so don't know if we will be working on 'Jane-May' tomorrow (27th Sept), we will have to wait and see.
