Update of my Series 2 Budget restoration - After the MOT

Sunday 19th January 2014

Well, we tried to take 'Jane-May' for a run the other day. What a load of messing that was. For some reason she would not run and it was like being on a camel. The ride was that bad, believe me it was really bad.

So Paul has taken the carb apart and has also taken the fuel pump off. OMG, the state of the fuel pump was shocking. We had already cleaned the carb during the restoration. But it needs a full overhaul now. So we have bought a carb service kit and Paul has been doing that today.

When he took the fuel pump off, he called me out to have a look. OMG, is an understatement. The amount of gunge in the pump was amazing. The only problem we have is that a service kit is not going to do any good. We need to get a full new fuel pump. So that will be a long search on the internet for one.

Anyway, here is a picture of the fuel pump when he took it off 'Jane-May'

All that dark stuff in the sediment bowl is the gunge that is in the fuel.

This shows the yuk that is floating on the top of the fuel. Not a good thing to have

This is the sediment bowl after the fuel had been poured out

So now we have to get a new fuel pump. The way that the valves are fitted you cant take them out and replace them. So we will have to do a search for a new one. I will let you know how we get on.

That is it for now. Lets hope there is nothing else that goes wrong for us. I have been looking forward to going for a drive in 'Jane-May for months.
