Series 2 Land Rover Budget Restoration - We are up to day 20 of the Land Rover Series 2 restoration 12th August 2013

Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven't updated the blog for a couple of days. It has been crazy here. The weather has been up and down and it has not been easy getting out to do anything.

But here are some photos of the tub. You can see where the repairs need to be done and we are working on that tomorrow or the next day (14th or 15th August).

Here the photo shows the repair that needs to be done on the front of the tub.
This is the front Driver's side (right hand side) of the tub

This is the front passengers side (left hand side) of the tub.

We had to put 2 plates on each of these parts. To give it more strength, as the metal was in a bad way. So it has been plated on both sides of the repair. Once this has been done it can be painted. I think I have had more paint on myself than on the parts for the Series lol.

The floor of the tub had some holes in that needed to be plated. We are looking for a large rubber mat to go in the floor of the tub so that when people or the dogs are in the back they don't slip everywhere lol. These are the patches that had to be put on the floor

This wasn't a big hole, but it needed to be plated for safety

This is to cover a few holes and there was also a section that was a little more than a hole. Good thing we have plated it.

All the metal trims around the tub have been taken off and they will be getting painted in silver. They were originally galvanised but they had been painted over a few times and were in a right mess. So they have been striped down to the metal and then sanded. So they have now had their first coat of silver hammerite. Looking good don't you think

These are the trims that run the length of the tub. At least they are on the bins to dry and not hanging on the washing line lol.

We are now getting a good collection of parts that are finished and they are all over the garden. It is a good thing that we have a big back garden to put them all in. If we didn't, I don't think they would all still be in the condition they are in now. I think I would still be painting out scratches lol.

Front panel, wings and cills

Doors, seat box and transmission tunnel

We now have the tub sanded down and that is ready for painting now that the repairs have been done.

So now we can get back to some painting.

Will let you know how that goes.
Debbie
