Series 2 Land Rover Budget Restoration - British Weather Strikes again - Rain stops everything 29th July 2013

Well the typical British weather strikes again.

It was lovely and sunny this morning when we got up. But had to go and get some Cream Hammerite paint for the wheels on the Series 2 and some Silver Hammerite paint for the parts of the doors that should be silver/metal colour.

We did have a little sleep in today. It was so hot yesterday and we had been out working for ages. So we needed to recharge our batteries lol.

We got the paint that we wanted and got some new roller heads so that I can continue painting the wings and the doors. The doors are nearly finished, but I had a little accident yesterday with one of the doors. The door had been put on some chairs in the garden to dry and it slipped off the chair. Oh my, there is a big scratch along the door. So that means it is going to have to be painted again. grrrrrr I will try to remember to take a picture before I paint it again. If the rain stops, I will go and take a photo.

It did rain last night, but we were lucky that we had finished for the day before it started. So that was good.

We had a visit from Avril, her hubby and her young boys yesterday. They came with the pillar side of the door hinge that we needed. I really cant thank them enough for the hinge. It has saved us from the despair of not having one of the doors fitted to my loved Series 2. The hinges are available if you search for them. But the cost of them is so stupidly high. I guess some people just want to cash in on the fact that they love their Series Land Rovers and just pick a price out of the air.

Avril and her hubby are the Database Secretaries for the Land Rover Series 2 Club. I think they all had a great time looking over my 'Jane-May'. Avril especially got excited finding the numbers for the Series that show the proof of age of my 'Jane-May'. These are in so many different places, that you have to not be frightened of getting on the floor to find them. The only way I can describe how excited she was, is a 'Child in a sweet shop' lol.

It was really lovely meeting Avril and her family and the amount of knowledge that they both had was amazing. It is so nice to speak to people that are like-minded about Series 2 Land Rovers. I guess that is why they are the Database Secretaries.

One thing that Avril did tells us was, not to throw away anything. Any part of the vehicle that you take off, whether is be rusty, damped or you just want to replace it. There is always someone in the owners club that is looking for that part. They thoughtfulness of all the members of the club is amazing. They all rally round to help each other all the time. This is shown in the newsletters that are sent out.

Even thou we are not members (YET), they were willing to come and help us out with a part that we needed. They even invited us to the next pub meeting of the club on 21st September. So we are looking forward to that. They even said that we could join the club on the next event, which is the Coast to Coast on Saturday 7th September. This sounds like it would be great fun and they will be camping overnight too. We will have to see if we can get away for that weekend.

So watch this space, you may see pics of us on the Coast to Coast or the pub meeting.

Anyway, the weather. What can I say. It is raining really hard and I don't think we are going to get anything done today. Everything that we need to do, is done outside. The rain is starting to pool in the garden and event he dogs don't want to go out lol.

You can see the rain on the new wing and the old ones here

And you can see the rain on the door that has had the inside painted. This is the door that we had the accident with.

You can also see the water collecting in the side of the wing that is laying on the ground. This was blown over in the wind and rain last night.

Well, that is it for me today. I am going to have a look at some pictures of a Series 2 that has been restored to get some ideas. Here is a picture of one that has been done already. This is what sort of thing we are going for on 'Jane-May'.

This is nearly the same colour as we are painting 'Jane-May'. this image is from google images.

Lets hope the weather is kinder to us tomorrow.
