Day 40 (22nd September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 40

Well again today the weather has been great. A little too hot for my liking, but good for getting more work done to 'Jane-May'.

Paul has been taking everything off of the axles, brakes, drums, callipers, shoes and that so that he could get them painted to look so much more tidier than they do. So he has been really busy doing that. Not everything came off as easily as he had hoped for, but he got there in the end.

I was busy too, while Paul was doing that, I started to paint the bulkhead in the yuk green. We are making sure there is at least 3 coats of paint on everything.

This is how the axles all look now that they have been painted.

As you can see they all look pretty good now. They will look great when all the new brake shoes, callipers and drums are on. Hopefully they will all be going on this week. One thing that we did notice while he was painting, was that there is a couple of holes in the exhaust. So we are going to have to get a complete rear section. Another part that we didn't think we would need. He also noticed that there are some seals that will need to be replaced too. Oh well, 'Jane-May' is worth it. So we will have to have a trip to the local 4x4 parts shop and see how much they want for the exhaust and the seals.

As I said, I started to paint the bulkhead in the yuk colour, but I didn't get very far at all. It was killing me to paint it as there are so many little twists and turns that you have to get into. So Paul will be finishing it off for me. But this is how much I got done.

Bulkhead is coming on. Don't you think the bumper looks good in this photo too.

I do hate this colour, but it is good to get as much protection as possible on all the metal. So it was good for something at least.

The bulkhead is really coming along now, but I have just noticed that I missed the bottom of the footwell LOL. But in my defence, I was really aching by this time. Paul took the photos and he forgot to take a picture of the inside part of the bulkhead. I have painted a load in there too. He is a silly boy LOL.

So I left the bulkhead for Paul to finish off and painted the tailgate. So that just needs one more coat of the Brunswick Green on the inside and then 2 coats of the Brunswick Green on the outside. Once that is done the tailgate will be finished yippeeeee LOL

The bins do come in handy for putting stuff on to dry LOL

I also got the floor plates painted, but again Paul forgot to take a picture of the other side of them. I really do need to have a talk him about taking photos LOL.

These are the floor plates. They have been painted in the base dark green on the other side. I will have to take a photo to show that. Paul, what are you like!!!!

The petrol tank needed another coat of black, so I did that too. Well, there was no point in putting the black paint away until everything that needed it was done.

Now the tank is all lovely and black. Not like it was before at all.

As we were getting on so well with the last bits of painting. Paul said he would take the wire brush adaptor and put it on the angle grinder. This would make light work of cleaning the wheels up for painting. Now the wheels are being painted with white hammerite first (2 coats), then with the cream. That will be the main colour and really makes the wheels look cool. Well, I think it does anyway. You just know there is going to be a but, don't you. Hmm, yes there is a but.

Paul started to clean the first wheel and was getting on really well with it. The wire brush he has for the angle grinder was working really well. Until. Are you ready for it.............................. The grinder kicked back at him. All I heard was an almighty shout from behind me. The grinder had got tangled in his t-shirt and had twisted around it. But not only that, ...........are you ready for this.......................
it had caught him and he had a big, how to describe this!!!!!!!  Well Paul says it is just a scratch, but its not. Anyway, it caught him and I had to clean it up and put a dressing on it. It was pouring with blood. I will say that the cuts (yes cuts) were not deep, but there was a lot of them. He laughingly said, 'That's one for the blog' and I laughed and said 'Oh yes it is', so I took a photo. Don't worry, you will not see any blood. I took a picture of the dressing.

What is he like!!!!!!!  I just cant take him anywhere. If something is going to go wrong or someone get hurt, you can bet it will be Paul that it happens to. Bless him. I did show some concern, well after I had laughed so hard that I couldn't breath, I showed him some concern. He is doing stuff like this all the time. Well, the fact that he set himself alight while welding was proof of that. Anyway, it really wasn't that bad, I just put a dressing on it to keep it clean. You know what it is like the little cuts are the ones that bleed really bad. He said he was more worried about the grinder and his t-shirt than he was about himself. But that is typical of Paul LOL

But I haven't shown you the wheel LOL. I was laughing so hard again telling you are him injuring himself again I forgot. LOL So here is the first wheel.

The wheel has had one coat of white. Will need a second coat before the cream can go on.

So that is where we are up to now. Paul has said as long as the weather is good and we (well him) don't have any more accidents, we should be able to have 'Jane-May' ready for the MOT in about 2-3 weeks. Him saying that really did make me happy. I am really looking forward to being able to drive 'Jane-May' again. It has been a couple of years now since I last drove her. Don't you think it is getting exciting now. I do LOL.

Speak to you soon

Series 2 Owners Club Pub Meeting - Saturday 21st September 2013

Hi Everyone

Well we had a fab day today. We went to our first Series 2 Owners Club pub meeting today. With 'Jane-May' not being completed yet, we went to the meeting in 'Olli'. I did think I had done my usual and got the date wrong as the pub we had directions for didn't have any cars in the car park LOL. But I was right about the day LOL, the meeting had been changed to a different pub and there was a notice from Karin, the Area Organiser saying where we had to go.

So when we arrived at the pub we could see all the beautiful Series 2's in the car park. There we 11 cars there in total (I think LOL), and they all looked just fab. There were a couple of members that didn't come in there Series 2's for a number of reasons. But there was a good crowd and they all made us feel really welcome and part of the club.

As usual, I forgot to take my camera with me, so the camera on my phone had to do. So I am sorry if the photos are not that good. LOL

So here we go, a few pictures of the cars that were at the pub meeting. I did love them all and thought I had seen my next Series 2, but hubby Paul said no more LOL, he is a spoil-sport. But I did realise when I looked in the cab of one of the Forward Controls, I would not be able to get in it LOL. It is just way to high for me to climb in. Oh well, I can still love from a distance LOL.

A couple of lovely examples of the Brilliant Series 2

Everyone has a good natter about what they have done to their vehicles and what they are going to be doing

Everyone likes to inspect the engine and Series 2 owners are no different LOL

This red Series had a 200 TDI (I think) engine in it. I must say it fitted very well.

My 'Olli' hiding behind a beautiful green soft top Series 2. Almost the same colour as 'Jane-May' is.

The inside of one of the Forward Controls. This is when I realised I would not be able to climb in one.

As you can see there were some really fab vehicles at the meeting. I fell in love with the two forward controls. Yes that is what I said I wanted as my next Series, but Paul says I cant have one. Mind you I don't think there is enough room on the drive for one and I really don't think I could climb up. I would need to have a step ladder with me all the time LOL. Oh well, will just have to stick with 2 Land Rovers. LOL

It was really great to see Avril and Dean and the boys again. It was a good thing that we had already met them or we would not have know we were in the right place. LOL There was a birthday celebration at the meeting and we all got a piece of beautiful birthday cake. But any cake is a good thing LOL. But I will say that the cake was really tasty and we both enjoyed it. So thank you for the cake. I wish I could remember who's birthday it was, but I am blonde and cant remember. I cant even remember who it was that had made the cake either LOL

Anyway, we were talking to Avril and she was saying she had read my blog about the saga with my documents. She came up with a really good idea, to take the documents to the nearest DVLA offices. The nearest one to us is Preston, so we are going to take them when I get my new vehicle docs. That way I wont be relying on Royal Mail to deliver them or not as the last ones didn't get anywhere. Well done Avril, this is a brilliant idea. So all I need now is the docs to come from the DVLA, so that we can have a day out in Preston LOL. If I knew where Avril lived, we could pop in for a cuppa while in Preston. So if you are reading this Avril, email me with your address and we can meet again when we are in Preston LOL.

It was lovely to finally meet Karin, the Area Organiser. I have spoken to her a few times on the phone and emailed her loads. But this was the first time we had met her. It is really nice to be able to put a face to the voice. Nice to meet you Karin, it does feel like I have know you for ages with speaking on the phone so many times.

An update on the docs I need for the DVLA, I today received my dating letter from the Heritage Motor Centre. Again a very big thank you to Richard at the Heritage Motor Centre for sending the copy of the Dating letter to me. It has arrived really quick and I just new my new Registration documents and I will be ready to take everything to Preston.

Right, that is it for today. The weather report is good for tomorrow yippee, so the last of the painting will be done and hopefully we will get the brakes all fitted too. Then all it will be is to get the body on 'Jane-May'. We will not be able to get the MOT done until I get my new registration number. So I hope taking all the documents to the Preston DVLA Office will help to speed things along. So watch this space for news on the new registration number and the brakes being completed. Then it will be the dressing of 'Jane-May' with her lovely newly painted body.

Again, thank you to everyone at the Series 2 Owners Club, North West, for making us so welcome today. We look forward to seeing you all again at the next pub meeting.

Saga over my Age Appropriate Registration Number

Well I really cant believe that this has happened. I have sent my Vehicle Registration Documents off to the DVLA asking them to issue an Age Appropriate Registration Number for my lovely 'Jane-May'. With this document I enclosed a Dating Letter from the Heritage Motor Centre, that confirms she was built in 1960. The number plate that we bought her with is for the year 1963 and just doesn't go with her at all. So we paid the £22.70 (with postage) for the Dating Letter to go with the request for a change in the number plate to the DVLA.

When I rang the DVLA to find out what they needed from me, they told me it would take around 3-4 weeks for a new registration number to be sent out to me. So I did my letter asking for the Age Appropriate Registration Number and sent it off with the Dating Letter and my Vehicle Registration Documents. I did this on 29th August 2013. To make sure they were safe and wouldn't get lost in the post, (ha), I sent them recorded delivery. Then it was just sit back and wait for the new Registration number to be sent out to me.

Well, on Thursday 19th September 2013, as it was 3 weeks since I had sent my documents off, I thought I would ring them to find out how it was going. I just wanted to know if I was going to be able to have a new number for my beautiful 'Jane-May'. As you would.

So I rang them.
Me: "Hi, yes I would like to know if a new registration number has been issue for my 1960 Series 2 Land Rover please".
DVLA: "Could I have the old registration number please".
Me: "Yes is it (well I'm not going to tell you what it is LOL)
DVLA: "Thank you, I will check the Database for you, one moment".
Me: "Thank you".
DVLA: "I'm sorry, but I don't show any record of the request on our system. When did you send it and how did you send it?"
Me: "What!!!!!!!!! I sent it Recorded Delivery on 29th August 2013".
DVLA: "Oh!!!! That is 3 weeks ago, it should have showed on our system. It takes 3-4 weeks for us to issue the registration number, but we will put on the system as soon as we get the request that we have received it". I would get in touch with Royal Mail. Do you still have your proof of Postage?"
Me: "Oh My God!!!!!!! Yes I still have the proof of postage. What will happen if someone has got my Documents???????????"
DVLA: "Don't worry, it is on the system now as the document is lost. No-one will be able to do anything. It would not have your signature on it if they tried to say they had bought it off you. If they tried to do anything it is on our system now, so don't worry. Ring Royal Mail and find out what has happened. It may just be waiting to be posted hopefully. But you will have to pay for new documents if it is lost, but check with Royal Mail first"

As you can imagine, I was so angry by now. Not only had I waited 3 weeks for something that was not going to now happen, but I have to pay for new documents to be sent to me so that I can ask for it again. So I rang Royal Mail.

Me: "Hello yes can you check the status of something I posted recorded delivery please."
ROYAL MAIL: "What is the tracking number please"
Me: I am not going to give you that either LOL I am not laughing really, I am crying
ROYAL MAIL: "Oh!!!!!!! erm!!!!!!! Sorry, but that item has been lost."
Me: "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT IS LOST. I SENT IT RECORDED DELIVERY SO THAT IT COULDNT GET LOST. HOW CAN YOU LOOSE SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS TO THE DVLA??????????????? I DONT BELIEVE THIS. WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THIS??????????? THIS IS REDICULOUS, I CANT BELIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
ROYAL MAIL: "You can make a claim against us for the lose of the documents and the cost of them"
Me: "Oh well that's good, I don't suppose you wouldn't loose that in the mail either would you!!!!!!!!"

Well, she told me where I could find the form to claim the cost of my documents. Now I have to send that off (like I really trust them to deliver it) and hope that they pay for the cost of the documents. We will have to wait and see what happens with that. The only problem I have is I have been told that they will sometimes give you the claim in stamps and not a cheque or the money. But flipping STAMPS, the total cost to me now is £57.32, what would I do with that much in  flipping stamps.

Well, then I had to ring the DVLA back and pay for the new registration documents. That was £25.00. It should only take about 3-5 working days for them to arrive (that is if they are not lost in the post). So I paid the money, wanting to cry the whole time.

I then had to ring the  Heritage Motor Centre to ask if I could have a copy of the Dating Letter. Now this should have been another £22.70 (with postage), but the guy at the Heritage Motor Centre was fantastic. I think he might have felt sorry for me. He is sending a copy out with no charge. Yes, no charge. I couldn't say thank you enough to him. So a very big Thank you to the guy in the Archives at the Heritage Motor Centre, you really are a good man and I thank you so much. I told him, as a thank you, I would mention their site on my blog and that I would link it to their site so that people could find them and if needed use their services. Again, Thank you very much Heritage Motor Centre.

This now means, when I have the registration documents and then send them off again, this time Special Delivery ( hopefully that will ensure they get delivered??????) it will be another 3-4 weeks for the new registration number to be sent to me. But this time, I am going to keep an eye on them. I will be checking the tracking on the letters in the post and the first sign that something is wrong I will be screaming down the phone at Royal Mail.

This really is totally wrong. When you pay for something to be sent recorded delivery, you expect it to reach the place it is being sent to. I advise everyone to check the tracking of your mail and ring them the first sign that is looking lost. If it stays on 'being processed for more than 1 day, get on the phone.

So now I am just waiting for all the documents to come so that I can send them all to the DVLA and hope and pray that they get there this time. So please, please, be very careful when sending important documents in the post. We tried to see if we could get a courier to take them, ha, they wanted £50.00 to take them. So I am going to have to just send them Special Delivery and pray they get to the DVLA.

Take care everyone and please look after your documents.
Debbie

Day 39 (18th September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 39

Well the weather has not been good at all this week. We have had gale force winds and torrential rain. I was said the other day watching the gazebo blowing all over the place on the CCTV. It is a good thing that we have it tied down or it would have blow into the gardens at the back of us LOL.

Anyway, my poor 'Jane-May' has not had much done to her recently. With the weather and waiting for parts to arrive, there has not been much to do at all. The only things that we have been able to do is to get the chassis painted completely and the bulkhead has had a full coat of the primer green paint. Plus the bumpers have been painted in silver and are looking really fabulous now.

Rear Left side of bumper

Rear Right side of bumper

Front bumper from Right side

As you can see the bumpers are looking fabulous. I do think they look so much better in silver than the grotty black that they were in.

All the new brake pipes have been fixed to the chassis now too. They should have been done like this when we bought the car, but they were either hanging or were held in place with zip ties. I know, what was he thinking. It is a MOT failure if the brake pipes are not fixed in place. So at least now they are all new and fixed in place properly.

Right side front showing the brake pipes

Right side middle showing the brake pipes

The bulkhead has now all been painted with the primer green and looks pretty good. We have had to do a little bit of repair work to the top of the bulkhead by the vents, but it was not a big thing to do. So now it is all painted and looking good. All ready for the second coat of paint. We just need to weather to be able to get some more painting done.

You can see in this picture the colour that poor 'Jane-May' was painted in. yuk!!

Doesn't this look pretty LOL

You can see that the Air-filter to Carburettor elbow pipe is looking a bit worse for wear LOL

So we have ordered all the other parts that we needed. They have now all arrived, thank goodness. These parts are:
Air-filter to Carburettor Elbow Pipe
Front and Rear Indicators
Front side lights
Rear Stop and tail lights
Number Plate Light
Vent seals
Bulkhead to Screen seal
Headlight bowls
Brake Drums
Full Brake kit including Master Cylinder
Check strap converter plates
Flexi brake pipes

So now we just need the weather to be kind to us so that we can get all the rest of the brakes done. Then we will be able to get the wheels on before we put the body back together. There is no-way we are putting the body on before the wheels are on. I don't want anything to happen to the body if the car comes off the axle stands again LOL.

So that is it for now. Please prayer for nice dry weather over the weekend so that we can get everything done ready for the body to go on.

We are having a bit of a day out on Saturday 21st September 2013. We are going to our first Series 2 Owners Club Pub Meeting. So I will let you know all about that tomorrow. I am going to be taking my camera with me, so that I can take pictures of all the fantastic Series 2's that are going to be there. It is just a pity that we are not able to go in 'Jane-May', but at least we will be going in another proper Land Rover. This is 'Olli' and she is my baby LOL

This is my baby 'Olli' don't you think she is gorgeous LOL

Side view of 'Olli', this makes her look massive LOL

I have just been thinking that I didn't show any photos of how 'Jane-May used to look before the restoration. So here are a couple of pictures of her the day I bought her. I have taken out the face of the guy that we bought her off, I don't want to see his face ever again.

This is how 'Jane-May' used to look. Don't like the colour at all. Glad that has gone. The Bonnet (hood) was us so that hubby Paul could check the engine for leaks. There were none thank goodness

This is the inside looking in from the rear. Yes that is me with a big smile on my face LOL. I fell in love with 'Jane-May' on that day and knew I was going to make her look so much better than she did on that day.

Well, that is it for now. So I hope you have enjoyed reading about how things are going, or should I say not going at the moment LOL. I also hope you have enjoyed looking at the picture of how 'Jane-May' used to look and looking at my other baby 'Olli'.

Speak to you all tomorrow
Debbie

Sunday 8 September 2013

Day 38 (8th September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 38

It has been a couple of days since we were last able to work on my Series 2 'Jane-May'. With illness and the weather, it has been 4 days since we last did any work. But you will enjoy reading about what happened today.

And Oh what a day we have had today. I do hope you have been to the toilet before you read this post. You will be wetting yourself when you have finished reading.

Right, the chassis is finished and all painted. The brake parts all came on Saturday. Now we need to jack the Series up, take the wheels off and put on axle stands. Then make the brake pipes and fit the new brakes, pipes, cylinders and master cylinder, Easy, Right!!!!!!!!!!

NO, nothing is easy. We got the back of the Series jacked up and the axle stands underneath. Then took the wheels off. Marking them with chalk so that we know which wheel was from where. Now we need to get the front jacked up. We got it jacked up enough to take the wheels off and mark them up. Then we tried to get the axle stands under. Easy right, WRONG, VERY WRONG. As we jacked the front of the Series up, it slipped. Yes, slipped. This part of the garden used to be a flower border and there is only stones over the top of the soil.

Well, all we could do was watch and the whole of the front of the Series went down into the ground. It buried the axle stands, but not just them. It also buried the jack. Paul only has one jack, so I had to go and knock at a neighbours house to see if he had one. Luckily he had one. Only a little jack, but we were hoping it would do the job.

In all, with trying to get the front of the Series jacked up to free the stands and Pauls jack, we were held back with the work for an hour. I think our neighbour was having a good laugh. But he did help out, so I will let him off. LOL.

We had to take some paving flags from the back garden too put under the axle stands and slowly jack everything up again to get it back up straight. I hope you are not laughing too much, not.

Anyway, Paul has managed to get 4 of the 6 new brake pipes made. He would have got them all done, but it started to rain just after we got 'Jane-May' on to sturdy flags and stands.

So here are the photos of the brake pipes that have been made so far.

Well that is it for today. The weather has been awful and so has our luck with the Series today. Lets hope tomorrow is a better day for weather and for luck. At least the lads are back at college tomorrow, so we wont have them to worry about.

So will speak to you all tomorrow
Debbie

Day 37 (4th September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 37

Loads of funning around again today has eaten into the time we have today for working. But we will get to it very soon.

Now that the chassis is finished, it can be painted. For a change I have not done the painting LOL. Paul got the paint brush and paint out and painted all of the rear of the chassis. This is the first coat of paint and the axles will need to be painted also.

Here are the photos of the newly repaired chassis. I think it looks very sexy in black LOL

First coat of black on chassis

This is looking really good and I think it looks sexy in black LOL

High view of the chassis. This is a good view of everything

We are now ready for the second coat of paint and the axles to be painted. That will have to wait until tomorrow now. It is not so warm today and we are all feeling the cold.

So until tomorrow
Debbie

Day 35 (2nd September 2013) and Day 36 (3rd September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 35

Well as usual, nothing has gone to plan. When Paul had a closer look at the part of the chassis that the outrigger goes on, it is shot. So this has to be replaced before he can put the outrigger on.

Before this can be done, we have to try and get some more cutting discs. Just hope the DIY store has a load in or we will not be able to get any work done.

Plus, I had to take our youngest son to college. He is helping out for the week. All the new sixth formers start and he is going to be on hand to help them if need. Well, that is what he said he was doing. The only problem was, it was the wrong day. They are not back until tomorrow grrrrr. You cant rely on kids for anything can you LOL

Well, the DIY shop had some discs in but not many. We could only get 15 discs and we had to go to 2 shops to get them. So Paul is hoping this will be enough o get the last section cut out. There were so many plates put on that the sections he had to remove were really thick.

Paul has got that part out now and the welding can begin again. Here is the section where the outrigger goes. All nice and new and solid too, which is the important part. LOL

These photos show the whole of the rear drivers (right) side of the chassis that has now been replaced, but minus the outrigger. That might have to wait until tomorrow to do put in place.

The outrigger can now be put on now, but it is getting late. What with having to go and buy more cutting discs, and the messing around with our youngest son LOL.

We have added up how many cutting discs we have used. Are you sitting down LOL. We have used a total of 35 cutting discs (including the work on the pillars, footwells and bulkhead). Not only did we use so many of the cutting discs, but all the work burnt out one of Pauls grinders LOL. The worse thing about the grinder blowing was, it was the heavy duty one blew LOL.

Day 36

Well, today is the day that we hopefully finish all of the welding. As far as we can see, it is only the outrigger that needs to go on. So we will be doing that after we have done some much needed shopping. That is shopping for food and not for Land Rover parts LOL.

Here are the photos of the completed chassis. Paul being able to weld has saved a fortune. I would have hated to see how much someone would charge us to do all the welding. I know that a rear half chassis costs £250.00 plus VAT at £49.00, plus Delivery ????? That would have been a total of £294.00 for a new rear half chassis.  So we have saved a great deal of money.. It has worked out about £76.00 for the steel, gas and welding wire. That is everything that has had to be welded now. Yippee.

So here are the photos of the completed chassis looking nice and solid.

View of whole rear chassis

View of inside rear drivers (right) side of chassis

View of outer far rear passengers (left) side of chassis

Front view of drivers (right) side of chassis showing the outrigger

That is all the welding finished now. YIPPEE. Paul is really happy all the welding is done now.

Don't tell him I have told you this okay. But he managed to set himself on fire doing the chassis. He is okay, it was just his t-shirt that caught fire and he got it off before he was burnt. But as you can imagine, all I could do was laugh. I know, I am wicked, but it was so funny watching him run around the front garden ripping his t-shirt off. I have now given him the nickname of 'Paul the non green Hulk'. He didn't find this funny at all. ha ha ha ha ha. But I found it hilarious.

Well that is it for today. We will be back again on day 37 of the restoration.
Debbie

Day 34 (1st September 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 34

Well hubby had been doing a lot of welding today. He has been non-stop all day. The far rear of the drivers (right) side rear chassis is now finished and I think it looks brilliant. Well done to hubby Paul for all his hard work on the Series 2 'Jane-May'. He really has been working hard and my Series is going to look fantastic when she is finished.

Anyway, back to the chassis. Here are the photos of the biggest section of chassis to be replaced.

Far rear section clamped in place ready for welding

Inside view of repair that has been done on far rear of chassis

Paul has said that when all the welding is finished, he is going to work out how many feet of weld he has done. I don't know if I really want to know how much has been done. I just like seeing the finished work LOL.

Here are the photos of all the welding done on the far rear drivers (right) side of the chassis. I think Paul is sick of welding now LOL, but I don't blame him. He has spent days doing the chassis and I think he is really happy it is nearly all over LOL.

Photos of completed far rear of drivers (right) side of chassis.

Close up of completed far end of drivers (right) side rear of chassis

I think all the welding has taken its toll on my poor husband. Do you think he looks relieved, that it is nearly finished or just shattered LOL

Paul with a well deserved can of beer LOL

I think he was trying to work something out before continuing with the welding. It looks like his brain was starting to hurt LOL

He has told me that he just needs to replace one more patch and then weld the new tank outrigger. Then that will be all the welding done. I hope. LOL That will be the welding finished.

So look out for day 35 of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover coming tomorrow (well in a bit tonight as I am behind in doing my blog due to PC problems LOL).
Debbie

Day 33 (31st August 2013) of my Budget Restoration of my Series 2 Land Rover

Day 33

Well, the work is still on going and the drivers side (right) of the chassis is coming along. Hubby is today making the pieces up that go into the rear Drivers (right) side of the chassis. I managed to take some photos without him knowing. You can see him working away on the chassis in these photos

Hubby gridding away at the weld he has done to smooth it off

More gridding on the welds to smooth it

Hubby inspecting to make sure everything fits right

This side of the chassis has been a lot more work than we first thought. When hubby was taking off the rubbish, he found that the holes that were supposedly covered, were not covered. This means the piece that we have to put in is bigger, but he has done it. The first section has been put in place and I think he is pleased with the result. Not that he ever tells me that everything is going to plan or not LOL.

All of this part has been done and the first section is in place properly. I think this is a good job done and hubby is happy that he has got this part finished. Here is the first section finished.

It has taken a long time to get this part done and I think hubby has had enough of welding for one day LOL. He will be back welding again tomorrow. It is getting late and we don't want to annoy the neighbours LOL

Speak tomorrow
